A Review of ChatGPT from OpenAI

A Review of ChatGPT from OpenAI

As a writer the announcement of ChatGPT back in November 2022 made my heart sink. The creativity and imagination we writers love to use, could surely not be recreated by AI tech? But having used OpenAI’s DALL.E 2 image tool, I knew there was a possibility that the AI...

rebranding

Sourcing Hat is now Cup & Sourcer

News and Events | 0 comments

We are rebranding and changing the company name from Sourcing Hat to Cup & Sourcer! Here’s why.

In 2012 I registered Sourcing Hat as a limited company. I’d been debating a name, and nothing felt right until this idea dawned on me.

I had talked about putting my Sourcing Hat on for quite a while, meaning that feeling you get when you’re searching away, tracking down candidates, and you just feel in the zone.

It also sounds a lot like Sorting Hat, the magical hat in the Harry Potter series that decides which house students are put in at Hogwarts. This appealed to me at the time, I was a huge Potter head. And therein lies the problem. Because the Potterverse is no longer a safe space; JK Rowling is a transphobe. Any money spent on the franchise eventually filters pennies back to the mothership, who will use her platform to lobby for change that will harm people.

For the past three years, I’ve been trying to unpick my Potter fandom from my life. I still occasionally find a bit of merchandise in my house and I’m like “how are you still here?” or someone (who clearly hasn’t seen me in a while) buys me a gift that’s Harry Potter themed and I explain that that isn’t appropriate anymore. It’s not a hassle, I do it gladly and with love.

The final piece of the puzzle was the company name. It was only left until last because it was the most difficult piece to unpick. Oh, the wonderful irony that we get to experience the challenges that come with a name change in order to support our trans friends and family members. Again, it’s done gladly and with love.

I’m really looking forward to talking about what the business is doing and promoting our services, without worrying that the name might make anyone feel unsafe.

I am still The Sourceress, so don’t expect us to drop the magic and the spook from the brand. In fact, magic has played a big role in our choice of a new company name – many tarot and oracle cards were pulled during the process. I look forward to sharing more about this journey with you as we continue the rebranding process.

Please give us a follow over on LinkedIn. We’ll be sharing more over there in the coming weeks.

Much love,

Katharine x
